Conversion: Repentance and Faith

Grudem defines conversion as follows: “our willing response to the gospel call, in which we sincerely repent of our sins and place our trust in Jesus Christ for Salvation.”

Conversion involves two elements: faith and repentance.  The latter, repentance, is turning from sin and the former, faith, is turning to Christ.  Repentance and faith are both necessary for salvation.  Grudem defines faith as follows:

Grudem defines repentance as

a heartfelt sorrow for sin, a renouncing of sin, and a sincere commitment to forsake it and walk in obedience to Christ.

Accordingly, he define faith as follows:

is trust in Jesus Christ as a living person for forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God.[1]
